It achieves its success via a number of methods:-

  • Reputation - As much as 65% to 75% of spam is rejected before it even reaches your mail server using blacklists of known spam sources.
  • Profiler - A further 25% is identified via a spam profiler engine which matches the pattern of an email against known ‘fingerprints’.
  • Censor – 8% to 10% of spam that has passed undetected by the previous detection layers get caught by the spam censor. This is a real-time engine that specialises in detecting spam not been previously encountered. Anything deemed to be spam by the censor can be deleted or quarantined so that users can check that nothing has been incorrectly identified.
  • Blacklists - This engine examines URL links embedded in messages and checks them against lists of known websites associated with spam.

In addition to these engines, you can also define custom policies for the automatic acceptance or rejection of emails from specific sources. All said and done, you can expect a 99.5% reduction in the spam you receive.
